First came an Earthquake in Viriginia (whaaaaat!), then Hurricaine Irene... and on Thursday we got hit with LEE (Tropical Storm Lee)... and Lee decided to renovate our basement by way of water! Let me tell you the tale....
I started back to work this week and absolutely loved everything about my new job, except the rain. Then on Thursday, my off day, I got to take Logan to his FIRST day of school,..again RAIN, and lots of it! Thursday night I had my GMU class where I had to duck and run to stay dry. In the middle of class, I got a text message from Steve saying that the parking lot he was in was flooded and he was stuck in the grocery store!!! Of course, coming from Steve, I ignored it, thinking he was making it up. Nope. He wasn't. The rain hit so hard and fast that most of Northern Virginia flooded and many road (both side street and highways) were shut down. Some how I made it home and met a friend and her husbands military equipment at my house where I changed into weather proof clothes and a bag filled with new clothes for the boys and steve. The plan: to WALK to the grocery store and save my boys... Oh Yeah, and did i mention steve had both boys with NO diapers, food or change of clothes. Fortunately he was locked in a grocery store and could buy everything he needed. FIVE HOURS LATER, I got to him and the boys (my friend was even able to hop curbs and cut through big puddles and get to them, and get us home.
Now for as excited as we were to get home, we were not happy with what we found!!!! The water from Tropical Storm Lee pounded on our back window and rushed into the basement, filling the entire basement with 2-3 feet of water! The sight was UNBELIEVABLE!
So here I sit, typing from the couch in the living room of our two bedroom hotel room where we have been "living" since yesterday. We were finally able to get the electricity turned off, to get into the basement and drain the water. But with 3 feet of water and no electricity or AC, we had to leave.
Tomorrow, we are fortunate to have several friends coming over to clear out the basement. Once everything is removed, we can get a better look at the damage and make the next few steps to "life after Lee".
Enjoy some views of our new Pool!
